North Carolina Central University Athletics

2013:  Became the first student-athlete in the Division I era of NCCU athletics to earn a spot on the third team of the Capital One Academic All-American squad.  Named to All-MEAC Academic team.  Named to the Capital One Region III All-Academic roster.  Ended his senior year as one of the top closer’s in the MEAC with a 1.24 ERA and 1-1 record in 18 appearances.  Threw 29.0 innings allowing just 22 six runs (four earned) on 22 hits with 24 strikeouts and 14 walks.  Opposing hitters batted .212 against Guarrera.  His eight saves were a team-high and modern era program record, while placing him in the top-four of the MEAC.  Earned his first win of the season on March 2 as he come on in-relief against North Carolina A&T in the 8-7 win over the Aggies.  In that contest he went 6.2 innings surrendering five hits and only one run and three strikeouts.  From March 9 through March 26 recorded six straight saves in consecutive appearances.  Struck out a season-high five batters in a 7-3 loss vs. Bethune-Cookman in the MEAC Baseball Championships on May 17. 

2012: Was a versatile member of the NCCU pitching staff who started three games, came on in-relief, and moved into the closer role. Led the team with six saves and earned three wins on the season. Threw 36.1 innings, making a team-high 22 appearances. Finished his first season with 28 strikeouts and 14 walks. In MEAC play, recorded a 4.50 ERA with a 3-1 record in 10 appearances with four saves in 14 innings, allowing seven earned runs with 11 strikeouts. Recorded two saves in the series win over North Carolina A&T throwing four innings in both victories combining for 4 strikeouts against the arch-rival Aggies. Earned his first NCCU win against Savannah State on March 24 throwing 1.2 innings with two strikeouts. Against Florida A&M on May 6, threw a combined 13 pitched in earning two saves in the sweep over the Rattlers. Recorded a career-high seven strikeouts in his second start at NCCU on Feb. 25 against NJIT. Had at least one strikeout in 15 of his 22 appearances.

Monroe Community College: Received first team All-Region III honors and won the Region III Championship went 5-3, sported a 2.2 ERA, 52.2 innings, 39 strikeouts and a .215 opponent BA. Monroe Community College boasts seven appearances in the National Junior College Athletic Association World Series.

High School (Webster Thomas H.S.): Was first team all-county ending the season 9-1 with a 2.34 ERA, 61 innings, and 80 strikeouts.

Personal: Born January 16, 1991. Son of John and Patti Guarrera and brother of Samantha, Janelle, and Jamie Guarrera. He is a sociology major at NCCU.
