Chris Smith joined the program as Assistant Baseball Coach in 2007 on Dr. Henry White's coaching staff. In charge of the pitchers, Smith brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the team. Plenty of talent comes along with his experience in the coaching venue as he starred at North Johnston High School, playing both in the outfield and toeing the rubber.
The Micro, N.C. product was a three-year letterman for the Panthers, earning All-Conference honors his junior and senior year, along with All-Area and All-State his senior season. Smith also played semi-pro baseball with both the Selma Jayhawks and the Carolina Titans Baseball club for four years after his high school career. When Smith's playing career was over, he took that knowledge gained from his time on the diamond and used it in the coaching circuit of nearly every age group in the Raleigh area from Pony league all the way to AAU Baseball for 12 years. He also went to numerous coaching clinics to work on his craft, including the Ripken Baseball Coaching Clinic in Baltimore, Md. With all of Smith's hard work and dedication to coaching, in 2004 he was awarded the Fred Fletcher Outstanding Volunteer Award for athletics from the City of Raleigh.
The 1985 North Carolina Central University graduate finished with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with a concentration in Accounting and was named Chancellor's Scholar, General Mills Scholar, along with being inducted into the Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society.
