Biography
2013: Finished his final season at NCCU starting in 52 of the 56 games, batting .236 at the plate with a team-high 21 stolen bases. He was third on the team with 48 hits, fourth in runs scored (31), second in walks (27), and tied for third in total bases (54). Recorded four doubles, a triple, and 13 RBI from his leadoff position in the lineup. Finished with 14 multi-hit ballgames that included two three-hit games, where he went 3-for-5 with an RBI on March 30 against East Carolina, and a 3-for-5 effort with a triple, a run scored, and three RBI on April 28 in the series finale against Florida A&M. In the last two games of the series against Florida A&M, Hood went 5-for-9 with a triple, two doubles, two runs scored, and four RBI. Ended his career on a six-game hitting streak which was the third longest such streak on the year.
2012: Did not participate on the 2012 NCCU baseball team.
2011: For the third straight season, led the team in batting average (.354) despite battling injuries all season long while playing in 30 games. Managed to get 40 hits in his 113 at-bats and was fifth on the roster with 5 doubles. Finished the season with an on base percentage of .402 and a slugging percentage of .407. Went a perfect 6-for-6 in stolen bases. Batted an astonishing .565 as the leadoff hitter (13-for-23). Finished the season with 10 multi-hit games that included 6 two-hit contests and 4 three-hit contests. Had the longest hitting streak of the season with 15-games that went from Feb. 25 to March 23. In the Buffalo series (March 18-20) went 7-for-14 (.500 BA) at the plate with two doubles and six runs scored. Ended the season on a four-game hitting streak and went hitless in only four games. Hampered by an injured quad the last month of the season, was batting .400 at the time of the injury.
2010: Nominated for NCCSIA All-State Team and to the ABCA All-Atlantic Region Team. Was once against a consistent member of the team ending the season with the top batting average on the roster with a .309 average. Ended his second season with career-highs in hits (55), doubles (6), RBIs (10), total bases (65), Walks (18), On-base percentage (.379) and tied a career-high with 25 runs scored. Finished second on the team with two triples on the season, and was 8-for-12 in stolen bases. Began the season where he finished 2009 extending his hitting streak to 13 games as he shot out of the gates batting .364 (8-for-22) with a triple and a run scored. Later in the season (March 20-March 30) had a six-game hitting streak going 13-for-23 with a .565 batting average with a double, seven runs scored, and four RBIs. Ended 2010 on another hitting streak going 8-for-18 (.444) with four runs scored in the season-finale series against Maryland Eastern Shore (May 8-9). Had a least one hit in 34 games, and ripped at least two or more hits in 18 games.
THIRD TEAM ALL-PING! FRESHMAN TEAM MEMBER
2009: Named third-team All-PING! Freshman Team. Made an immediate impact as the leadoff hitter in the Eagle lineup, playing and starting the third-most games on the team (39) and starting in the second-most games (39). Led the team in batting average (.322), runs scored (25), hits (47), total bases (59), stolen bases (16), stolen base attempts (19), total plate appearances (161), at-bats (146), and tied for first in triples (4). Ended up third on the squad in slugging percentage (.404) and on-base percentage (.375). Good enough for fourth on the roster with 4 doubles. Batted 13-for-39 .333 vs. left handed pitchers. Hit 9-for-28 (.321) with runners in scoring position. With a runner on third and less than two outs, batted 5-for-5 (1.000). In the outfield, tied for fourth with a .963 fielding percentage. First career game (Feb. 20) went 3-for-5 with a triple, run scored and an RBI. His first three games as an Eagle at the plate, 6-for-12 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs. Drove in runs in five of his first seven collegiate contests. In NCCU’s first doubleheader sweep against Savannah State, March 7, went 3-for-6 with his second career triple scoring 4 times along with an RBI to raise his average to .409 at the time. Enjoyed a 4-for-5 day at the dish against Campbell University (March 11) adding his first career double and his third triple in the meantime. Racked up 5 hits in 9 at-bats with 6 runs scored and 2 RBIs with a double and 2 stolen bases from April 10-13 (at Virginia State, at Coppin State). His average only dropped below .300 three times all season long. March 31 vs. Duke went 2-for-4 with a run scored and three stolen bases. Stole three bases twice on the season (March 31 vs. Duke and May 9 vs. UMES). Ended his rookie campaign with an 8-game hitting streak, going 11-for-27, batting .407 to end the season.
High School (Millbrook H.S.): Earned Co-CAP 7 Conference Player of the Year honors in 2008, leading the Wildcats to a conference title. Millbrook fell to eventual state champ, Greenville Rose, in the third round.
