Eagles To Host One Of Two Home Matches At Walker Complex

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central volleyball team will host a pair of MEAC matches at two different venues this weekend.

Morgan State will come to McDougald-McLendon Arena on Friday, Oct. 2, for a 4 p.m. matchup while Coppin State will meet NCCU at the LeRoy T. Walker Complex on Sunday, Oct. 4, for a 1 p.m. contest.

NCCU's match against Morgan State is the MEAC Game of the Week and will be livestreamed on the MEAC Network. The Coppin State-NCCU tilt will not be livestreamed.

The Eagles (1-1 MEAC, 3-10 overall) enter this weekend with momentum after beating Maryland Eastern Shore 3-2 on the road Sunday for their first conference win of the season. Shalyn Bell led the way with 18 kills, three blocks and season highs of 13 digs and seven service aces.

Breylan Fairley accumulated a program-record 59 assists - the most in the MEAC this season – to win her second straight MEAC weekly honor. The NCCU freshman earned conference setter of the week on Monday after winning rookie of the week on Sept. 21.

NCCU is seeking its sixth straight home win over Morgan State. The Eagles have won eight of the last 10 meetings including a 3-2 triumph at home last season.

The Eagles will seek their second straight win over Coppin State after stunning the defending MEAC champion 3-1 at home last year, handing Coppin State its only conference loss of the season. The victory snapped the Eagles' eight-match losing streak in the series.

Morgan State (1-1 MEAC, 2-12 overall) enters Friday after dropping a four-set match to Howard at home and defeating Norfolk State on the road in four sets this past weekend. Jada Williams tallied 15 kills, 10 digs and three blocks while Michaela Panekova added eight kills and 13 digs in the victory over Norfolk State.

Coppin State (2-0 MEAC, 11-5 overall) has won a record-tying 10 consecutive matches including three-set road wins over Howard and Norfolk State. The defending MEAC champion was led by conference player of the week Deviana Walker, who finished with 15 kills versus Norfolk State and nine kills against Howard.

Kayden Cupid, a former NCCU player, totaled six blocks in a five-set non-conference home win over Loyola (Md.) on Sunday. Coppin State leads the MEAC in kills, points, hitting percentage and assists.

This weekend features the MEAC's top three setters in Fairley of NCCU, Eva Rovello of Coppin State and Isabelle Brown of Morgan State. Coppin State libero Coco Figueroa, the league preseason player of the year, will also be in action.
