DOVER, Del. – Talia Emmen totaled 13 kills, eight digs and two aces but late leads slipped away from North Carolina Central in a 3-0 (18-25, 20-25, 22-25) volleyball loss to Delaware State in the MEAC opener at Memorial Hall on Friday.
After dropping the first set, the Eagles built a 15-10 lead in the second set behind Emmen's six kills and one service ace. The Hornets rallied back with a 15-5 run to take a 2-0 lead.
NCCU (2-10 overall) regrouped in the third set, opening a 20-15 lead on
Aniah Bass' two kills and an
Allyson Rouse kill and service ace. Delaware State (10-5 overall) came back again, using a 10-2 spurt to take the match.
Shalyn Bell added six kills and seven digs while
Morgan Wingo contributed four blocks for the Eagles, who had more service aces (6-5) and assists (27-24).
Breylan Fairley registered 23 assists, Bass finished with three blocks and
Alex Fuller chipped in eight digs.
