BURLINGTON, N.C. – Sanaa Carter and Cailynn Winford of North Carolina Central both finished among the top 25 golfers in the season-opening Elon Invitational at Alamance Country Club on Tuesday.

Carter fired a 220 to tie for 11^th, including a one-under par 70 in the second round. Her 70 was the third-lowest score and one of three under-par scores in the round.

Winford carded a 225 to tie for 25^th, including a one-over par 72 in the first round. Tylah James shot a 228 to tie for 36^th in her Eagles' debut.

The Eagles shot a 905 to place eighth out of 15 teams, an improvement from last year when they tied for 13^th out of 14 teams in the Elon Invitational. Overall, 82 golfers played on the par 71, 6,225-yard course.

The Eagles will compete in the Thomas W. Dortch Jr. HBCU Golf Classic in Suwanee, Ga., on Sept. 21-22.
