NORFOLK, Va. – In his collegiate debut, Aaron Alukunyang of North Carolina Central's men's track and field team earned MEAC Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors, announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Wednesday afternoon.
Alukunyang (Iten, Kenya) competed in two events for the Eagles at the VertKlasse Meeting on April 2-3. The freshman opened with a strong performance in the men's 1,500m, placing seventh with a time of 3:54.25.
He followed up by winning the men's 5,000m title in 14:27.62, crossing the finish line nearly 12 seconds ahead of the field.
NC Central returns to action nearby this weekend at the Duke Invitational, held at Morris Williams Stadium on April 10-11.
