CARY, N.C. –
Daiyah Bailey paced North Carolina Central at the plate, but the Eagles dropped both games of a softball doubleheader to Howard at Thomas Brooks Park on Friday. The Eagles fell in the opener 11-0 in five innings and dropped the second game 11-3 in six innings.
NCCU moves to 5-6 in the MEAC and 7-28 overall. Howard, the defending conference champion, improved to a league-leading 10-1 mark and 17-13 overall.
Bailey batted 4 of 6 on the day with a double, triple, two RBIs and one run scored. She factored in all three Eagles' runs in the second game, batting 2 for 3 with a double, a triple, one run and two RBIs.
Her two-run double drove in
Isabella Slape and
Janea Hudson in the third inning. She later scored on an RBI groundout by
Izabella Chavez in the same inning.
Hudson batted 1 for 2 with a double and one run scored and
Elana Krupey smacked a double in her only at bat in the second game. Slape was 1 for 2 with one run scored and
Mia De La Fuente and
Kendal Daniels each contributed a hit.
In the first game,
Tyler Suttles and
Sierra Soto both collected a hit.

Both teams meet again Saturday, April 4, at Thomas Brooks Park in the series' final game. First pitch is at 12 p.m.
