Big Day From Bailey Not Enough As Eagles Fall Twice To Howard

CARY, N.C. – Daiyah Bailey paced North Carolina Central at the plate, but the Eagles dropped both games of a softball doubleheader to Howard at Thomas Brooks Park on Friday. The Eagles fell in the opener 11-0 in five innings and dropped the second game 11-3 in six innings.

NCCU moves to 5-6 in the MEAC and 7-28 overall. Howard, the defending conference champion, improved to a league-leading 10-1 mark and 17-13 overall.

Bailey batted 4 of 6 on the day with a double, triple, two RBIs and one run scored. She factored in all three Eagles' runs in the second game, batting 2 for 3 with a double, a triple, one run and two RBIs.

Her two-run double drove in Isabella Slape and Janea Hudson in the third inning. She later scored on an RBI groundout by Izabella Chavez in the same inning.

Hudson batted 1 for 2 with a double and one run scored and Elana Krupey smacked a double in her only at bat in the second game. Slape was 1 for 2 with one run scored and Mia De La Fuente and Kendal Daniels each contributed a hit.

In the first game, Tyler Suttles and Sierra Soto both collected a hit.
