Eagles Fall To Delaware State In Series Finale

CARY, N.C. – North Carolina Central closed out its weekend series against Delaware State with a 3-1 softball loss at Thomas Brooks Park on Sunday.

The game was scoreless until the sixth inning when the Hornets took a 3-0 lead on a bases-loaded, two-out triple.

Izabella Chavez drove in NCCU's only run in the sixth inning. She scored Tyler Suttles on a sacrifice fly after Suttles led off with her MEAC-leading sixth triple of the season.

The Eagles (5-10 MEAC, 7-32 overall) threatened in the seventh inning as Kristin Corner and Daiyah Bailey each collected a hit. But with NCCU runners on first and third with two outs, the Hornets (9-6 MEAC, 18-16 overall) recorded a strikeout to end the contest.

Bailey and Corner led NCCU with two hits apiece. Chavez, Suttles and Mia De La Fuente each added a hit for the Eagles, who had seven hits.

Madeline Janssen was solid in the circle despite the loss. She held the Hornets hitless through five innings and finished with a four-hitter through seven complete innings with seven strikeouts and two walks.
