CARY, N.C. – Three players knocked in four runs for North Carolina Central in softball doubleheader losses to Gardner-Webb in its season home debut at Thomas Brooks Park on Tuesday.
Sierra Soto and
Wynter Williams each recorded an RBI in a 13-2 six-inning defeat in the first game.
Elana Krupey drove in two runs for the Eagles (1-19 overall) in a 9-2 loss in the second game.
In the first game, Soto tied the score 1-1 in the first inning on a bases loaded fielder's choice that brought home
Daiyah Bailey. The score remained tied until the fourth inning when Gardner-Webb scored four runs to open a 5-1 lead. The Runnin' Bulldogs (16-7 overall) added eight runs in the final two innings before Williams' RBI groundout scored Corner in the sixth for NCCU's second run.
In the second game, Krupey's two-run single to right field scored
Hannah McGonigle and
Avrelle Harrell in the fifth inning which trimmed the Eagles' deficit to 4-2. A grand slam home run by Gardner-Webb in the sixth inning pushed its lead to 8-2.
