Bailey Leads Eagles At Plate In Doubleheader Losses To A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Leadoff hitter Daiyah Bailey had a big day at the plate for North Carolina Central, which dropped both games of a softball doubleheader to rival North Carolina A&T at the Lady Aggie Softball Complex on Wednesday. The score was 10-5 in the first game and 10-3 in the second game.

Bailey batted 5 of 7 with three RBIs and two runs scored in both games combined. Her two-run single in the sixth inning of the first game scored Avrelle Harrell and Isabella Slape to tie the score 5-5 and erase an early four-run deficit. A&T responded with five runs in the bottom sixth to secure the win.

The NCCU sophomore was 2 of 3 with two RBIs, two stolen bases and two runs scored in the first game. Mia De La Fuente knocked in a run and Wynter Williams scored one run for the Eagles, who battled back from a 5-1 first-inning deficit before A&T erupted in the sixth inning. Izabella Chavez batted 1 of 2 for NCCU.

In the second game, Bailey delivered an infield single that scored Kendal Daniels to put the Eagles on the board after A&T built an 8-0 lead. Sierra Soto later blasted a two-run home run in the sixth inning, scoring Harrell to pull the Eagles within 8-3. The Aggies tacked on two runs in the bottom sixth for the final score.

Bailey was 3 of 4 at the plate with an RBI and Soto batted 2 of 3 including her first homer, two RBIs and one run scored in the second game. Harrell and Hannah McGonigle each registered a hit.
