DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central's men's tennis team extended its winning streak to five matches with a 6-1 victory over Guilford on Sunday at NCCU.
The Eagles (8-5) set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches. Antoni Pankowski and Naresh Bharathy were dominant at No. 1 doubles, earning a 6-0 shutout. At No. 2, Santiago Pinna and Leo Fortier-Gariepy secured a 6-1 win, while Lucas Artigas and Neiman Sneed matched that score at No. 3 to complete the sweep.
In singles play, Fortier-Gariepy picked up the first point after his opponent retired at the No. 1 position. Pankowski followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4, and Pinna pushed the lead further with a straight-sets victory at No. 5.
Sneed added another point in the No. 3 slot with a 6-3, 6-1 win, while Bharathy was flawless at No. 6, not dropping a single game in his two-set performance.
Guilford (1-9) earned its lone point at No. 2 singles, but it wasn't enough to prevent its third consecutive loss.
The Eagles now turn their attention to a busy week ahead. NC Central will host Longwood on Thursday, March 26 at 1 p.m. at Cary Tennis Park before traveling to Norfolk, Virginia for the MEAC Roundup over the weekend.
