The North Carolina Central women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision Tuesday afternoon, battling No. 3 North Carolina at the Chewning Tennis Center.
NCCU (1-4) faced its third nationally ranked opponent of the season, as UNC entered the match at 12-1 overall. The Eagles competed hard in doubles play, but the Tar Heels carried a 1-0 lead into singles.
Alejandra Hidalgo Vega faced the nation's sixth-ranked player, Oby Kajuru. The senior held her own in a competitive first set before falling 6-4. Kajuru secured the match with a 6-2 second set.
Valeria San Miguel Soria and Patricia Palencia also battled ranked opponents, but UNC claimed the remaining singles matches in straight sets to complete the sweep.
The Eagles will look to bounce back Friday, Feb. 27 at Cary Tennis Park. NCCU hosts Barton at 9 a.m., followed by UNC Asheville at 12:30 p.m. in a doubleheader.
