Eagles Soar Past Davidson, 6-1

CARY, N.C. – North Carolina Central's men's tennis team earned a 6-1 victory over Davidson on Sunday, marking the second consecutive season the Eagles have defeated the Wildcats. NCCU improved to 3-4 overall and finished the weekend 2-0.

The Eagles once again set the tone by claiming the doubles point. Pol Puig Montiel and Leo Fortier-Gariepy secured a 6-3 win at No. 3 doubles, followed by a 6-4 triumph from Antoni Pankowski and Naresh Bharathy in the No. 2 slot.

Santiago Pinna extended the Eagles' lead to 2-0 with a victory at No. 6 singles. Davidson's Connor Cole accounted for the Wildcats' lone point with a win at No. 4 singles.

Bharathy (No. 1), Rodrigo Alves (No. 2), Kareem Abdul Hakim (No. 3) and Pankowski (No. 5) captured the final four points for NCCU. Bharathy, Abdul Hakim and Pankowski each battled through at least one tiebreaker set before prevailing.

The Eagles return to action on the road Saturday, Feb. 28, against UNC Asheville at 1 p.m.
