CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – North Carolina Central gained early momentum on
Tyler Suttles' home run but Princeton scored late to down the Eagles 3-1 in the Tar Heel Invitational at Anderson Stadium on Friday.
Suttles hit her first career homer deep over the right field fence to put the Eagles ahead 1-0 in the first inning. The lead held until the fourth inning when Princeton tied the score 1-1. The Tigers added a run in each of the fifth and sixth innings for the final margin.
The Eagles (1-11) collected six hits including Suttles' home run and singles by
Daiyah Bailey,
Izabella Chavez,
Mia De La Fuente,
Kendal Daniels and
Hannah McGonigle. Princeton, an Ivy League power, finished with 11 hits.
The game was delayed for one hour and 30 minutes due to weather in the bottom of the third inning.
NCCU continues play in the Tar Heel Invitational on Saturday, taking on Rider at 5:30 p.m.
