NCCU Gears Up for MEAC Indoor Championships

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – The North Carolina Central men's and women's track and field teams are headed to the 2026 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Indoor Championships on Feb. 22-23. The event will be hosted at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.

Tickets are available for purchase both online and in person, but cash will not be accepted. Single-day tickets cost $20 each day, but a weekend pass for both days is $25. Children ages 10 and under have free entry. Students from MEAC schools are also able to watch the championships for free with a valid school ID card.

The final day of action will be streamed live on ESPN+ starting at 12 p.m.

Sunday's schedule includes the women's pentathlon, weight throw, long jump, women's and men's 3,000m, distance medley relay, men's long jump, pole vault, shot put, and high jump.

On Monday, winners will be crowned in the men's heptathlon, weight throw, women's shot put, and high jump, women's and men's triple jump, 60m, 60m hurdles, mile, 400m, 800m, 200m, 5,000m, and 4x400m relay.

During the indoor season, the Eagles have competed in four meets, having several victories on the track and in the field.

Zion Amadi had a terrific start to the season, moving up in the school record books and eventually breaking records as a sprinter. Melanne Sutton has also been steady, creeping toward her personal record in the 60m, which was set at last year's conference championships.

Tia Lucas, Rachel Key-White and Jonathan Raijon-Koger have all had top-three finishes in multiple high jump appearances. All three appear on the MEAC, HBCU and Southeast Region performance lists.

The Eagles' distance runners have also hit their stride. Emmanuel Paddyfote, Laila Jackson and Alitza Dennard led the charge. Most recently, the women's distance medley squad earned a first-place finish at the last regular-season meet.

Amadi, Lucas and Key-White have all received MEAC weekly honors this season.
