Five Wins for Eagles at Liberty Open, Including Two by Amadi

LYNCHBURG, Va. – North Carolina Central's women's and men's track and field teams returned from Friday's Liberty Open with five individual victories, two of which were claimed by sophomore Zion Amadi.

Amadi broke more records in the third meet of the season. In the men's 200m dash, Amadi outdid himself with a time of 21.01 seconds from his previous school record of 21.13 in December, winning the event. His time places him in the top 15 in Division I right now in the 200m.

In the 400m, Amadi moved up from third to second in the NCCU records book after a victorious 47.20 performance. Amadi is now only behind Gordon Lewis' 2019 record (47.11). In both races, Amadi rises to second on the HBCU Indoor performance lists.

Staying on the track, Emmanuel Paddyfote earned a new personal record by winning the men's 1000m with a time of 2:28.51. Melanne Sutton also finished third in the women's 60m. Her season best time of 7.44 was only 0.04 seconds shy of the winner.

In the field events, the Eagles had two women's high jump winners. Tia Lucas won for the second straight meet, tying a season best 1.74m in Liberty's high pit section. Rachel Key-White won the low pit section at 1.66m, tying a personal record.

Khamani Johnson earned second in the men's shot put (low circle). Johnson threw 12.58m in his third attempt, moving up to top 15 on the MEAC performance list this season.

NC Central heads to Virginia Beach, Va. on Feb. 13-14 for the Pre-National Indoor Meet, hosted by Norfolk State. This is the final meet before the Eagles return to the Virginia Beach Sports Center for the MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 22-23.
