WASHINGTON, D.C. – North Carolina Central pushed Georgetown to five sets before falling 3-2 (23-25, 25-23, 7-25, 25-19, 9-15) in a non-conference volleyball match at McDonough Arena on Friday.
Kamren Harper led NCCU with 14 kills against Georgetown and
Makenzi Searcy added 11 kills.
Manuela Cripa Nasser totaled 35 assists, eight digs and three blocks while
Loren Johnson and
Neira Joldic had 18 digs and 12 digs, respectively.
Jenelle Mason collected eight kills and
Tayah Little and
Leanna Beaty both tallied three blocks.
Earlier in the day, the Eagles fell to George Washington (22-25, 17-25, 14-25) in three sets at the Charles E. Smith Center.
Harper collected 10 kills and Cripa Nasser added 29 assists and 10 digs against George Washington. Johnson had 13 digs and Beaty finished with three blocks.
The Eagles dropped to 2-4 overall. The losses snapped a two-match win streak. Georgetown (1-3) and George Washington (1-3) each picked up their first wins this season.
NCCU vs. GEORGETOWN
Trailing 2 sets to 1, the Eagles bounced back in the fourth set (25-19) to tie the match at 2-2. Joldic's service ace tied the score 9-9 in the fifth set but Georgetown scored the final six points for the win. The Eagles gave a great effort on the road despite the loss.
NCCU vs. GWU
The Eagles led 5-0 in the first set but George Washington quickly gained control, opening a 14-7 lead. NCCU continued to battle, pulling within two points five times, the last at 24-22, before GWU scored the set-winning point. GWU took the last two sets.
