DURHAM, N.C. – Fresh off its first victory this season, North Carolina Central will host Gardner-Webb in its volleyball home opener at McDougald-McLendon Arena on Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 6 p.m.
The Eagles (1-2 overall) are coming off a four-set win over host UNC Wilmington at the Seahawk Classic on Saturday. The victory was the first-ever against UNCW in five matches.
NCCU was led by the nucleus of
Kamren Harper,
Leanna Beaty,
Allyson Rouse,
Manuela Cripa Nasser and
Loren Johnson over the weekend. Harper leads the Eagles with 3.70 kills per set and Beaty averages 2.33 kills per set.
Cripa Nasser is the Eagles' assists leader with 9.60 assists per set and she also averages 2.60 digs per set. Johnson averages a team-high 3.70 digs per set and Rouse is the MEAC blocks leader (1.13 per set) after the first week.
Gardner-Webb enters Tuesday's match with a 1-2 record after playing in the Spartan Classic this past weekend. The Runnin' Bulldogs defeated Sacred Heart in five sets and lost to Queens (N.C.) and UNC Greensboro in four sets.
Emma Kerwin leads GWU with 2.50 kills per set and Sloane Rooney averages 4.69 assists per set. Nalani McBride averages 6.15 digs per set.
GWU leads the season series 11-1 including a three-set win over the Eagles at home in 2023 one day after NCCU beat the Runnin' Bulldogs in five sets in Durham, N.C.
