HIGH POINT, N.C. – With nine top-three finishes, including six new personal records, the NC Central men's and women's track and field teams stood out at the VertKlasse Meeting on April 4-5 at Vert Stadium.
Two sprinting Eagles finished first, including freshman Cashmere James. His 46.59 performance in the men's 400m earned him a new personal record. In that same race, fellow freshman Zion Amadi was third at 47.35 seconds.
James was also third in the men's 200m participate seeded race with a time of 20.92, another personal record.
Sophomore Melanne Sutton also came out on top of the podium in the women's 100m race with a new personal record of 11.45 seconds. Sutton also ran in the women's 200m and placed second (23.99).
Completing the top-three finishes on the oval was Nyree Bacchus who finished third in the women's 400m (54.42) and the women's 200m participate seeded race (24.12), both of which were personal records.
In the field events, Tia Lucas leaped 1.69m in the women's high jump A group for second place. Also, Sa'Niya Fowler earned a new personal record for third in the women's hammer throw elite (54.30m).
The Eagles continue their season at the Duke Invitational on April 10-12 at the Morris Williams Stadium.
