NORFOLK, Va. – Freshman outfielder
Daiyah Bailey of North Carolina Central was selected MEAC Softball Rookie of the Week on Monday for her performance against South Carolina State over the weekend.
Bailey played a crucial role in the three-game series, hitting .636 on 7 of 11 batting and producing seven runs, two RBIs and four stolen bases. The Eagles captured the series two games to one in Orangeburg, S.C.
In Saturday's doubleheader, Bailey was 2 of 4 with one run scored in a 5-1 eight-inning win in the first game. She batted 2 of 4 with one RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases in a 9-8 loss in the second game that went nine innings.
On Sunday, Bailey was perfect at the plate, going 3 of 3 with one RBI, three runs scored and two stolen bases in a 16-4 victory.
A native of Moreno Valley, Calif., Bailey leads the Eagles in runs scored (27), hits (42) and stolen bases (19). She is 19 of 19 in stolen base attempts and ranks among the MEAC's top five in all three categories.
