PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – NC Central had six field athletes compete at Penn Relays on April 24-26 at Franklin Field. Freshman Theodore Skinner tied his personal record of 2.10m in the college men's high jump event for second place.
The last time Skinner cleared 2.10m was at the Raleigh Relays in March, which also was a top-five finish. The Garner, N.C. native has the sixth-best performance in the Division I Southeast Region this outdoor season in the men's high jump event.
Not far behind Skinner on the regional performance list in men's high jump is fellow Eagle Jonathan Raijon-Koger in 10th for his 2.06m leap at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational earlier this spring. The sophomore was just shy of that mark with a 2.05m clearance, finishing sixth in the high jump event in Philadelphia.
In the women's college high jump, Tia Lucas earned a top-10 finish, tying for sixth by leaping 1.65m. All six of Lucas' outings in the high jump event during the outdoor season have been in the top-10, including two victories.
Sa'Niya Fowler completed the college women's hammer throw in 15th at 50.55m. The final two Eagles at Penn Relays were Matthew Swepson and Gabriel Urraca. Swepson finished 23rd in the college men's javelin throw (50.09m) and Urraca was 18th in the college men's shot put (15.01m).
NCCU concludes the regular season at Duke Twilight in Durham, N.C. on May 4 at Morris Williams Stadium.
