Eagles Fall Twice To Delaware State In Doubleheader

DOVER, Del. – North Carolina Central dropped two games of a softball doubleheader to Delaware State at DSU Softball Field on Friday. The 6-0 and 5-4 losses snapped a nine-game Eagles' winning streak against the Hornets.

Both teams meet up in a single game Saturday to conclude the season series. The start time is 12 p.m.

The first game was scoreless until the fourth inning. The Hornets scored two runs in the bottom fourth and added three runs in the fifth inning for a 5-0 lead. They tacked on one run in the sixth inning for the final score.

Cameron Frye batted 2 of 3 to lead the Eagles. Tyler Suttles and Makiya Graves each added a hit.

The Eagles led 3-2 in the top of the fifth in the second game. Graves smacked an RBI triple and Samaria Jackson contributed an RBI groundout.

But the Hornets (21-20, 9-8 MEAC) scored three runs in the bottom fifth to pull ahead 5-3. The Eagles closed the gap 5-4 on Nyla Rodgers' RBI double in the sixth inning but would get no closer.

Daiyah Bailey was 3 of 4 with a double, one RBI and one run scored for the Eagles (10-30, 7-9 MEAC). Jaden Davis batted 2 of 3 with two runs scored.
