DURHAM, N.C. – In the fourth meet of the outdoor season so far, the North Carolina Central men's and women's track & field teams stayed close to home at the Duke Invitational on April 10-12. Junior Tia Lucas led the way with a first-place finish in the women's high jump event.
Lucas (James Island, S.C.) cleared 1.66m in the women's high jump group B section against 16 athletes, including competition from Clemson, Penn State, NC State and so on. This is Lucas' second first-place finish during the outdoor season.
On the men's side of the high jump, Theodore Skinner earned eighth in group A, leaping 1.96m. Skinner has earned three top-10 finishes in this event over the last three weekends.
Julian Williams and Gabriel Urraca finished 11th and 17th in the men's shot put, respectively. Williams' throw of 16.03m is a new personal record.
Malcolm Forbes also placed 19th in the men's triple jump (13.77m) while Matthew Swepson took 14th in the men's javelin event, throwing 52.50m.
Sa'Niya Fowler finished 17th in the women's hammer with a 51.46m throw and the final top-20 finish for NCCU came from Laila Jackson in the women's 800m with a time of 2:10.03 for 16th place.
With only three meets left in the regular season, NC Central travels to Greensboro, N.C. next weekend for the Aggie Invitational hosted by North Carolina A&T.
