BALTIMORE, Md. – Nyla Rodgers hit a three-run home run and
Jaden Davis fired a four-hitter for North Carolina Central in a 6-2 softball win over Coppin State in the first game of Saturday's MEAC doubleheader at the Coppin State Softball Complex.

The Eagles led 6-0 after Rodgers' three-run homer in the third inning. That was more than enough runs for Davis, who struck out eight batters and walked three in seven complete innings. The pitching win was her third straight and sixth overall this season.
Davis pitched the Eagles (6-26, 3-5 MEAC) out of jams in the fifth and sixth innings. Coppin State (3-15, 3-5 MEAC) had runners on second and third base with one out in both innings but did not score.
NCCU opened a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by
Takia Nichols and an RBI single by
Samaria Jackson.
Daiyah Bailey hit an RBI single in the second inning for a 3-0 lead before Rodgers' homer in the third inning. Coppin State scored two runs in the bottom third.
Bailey finished 2 of 3 with an RBI and one run scored for the Eagles, who totaled 11 hits.
Makiya Graves batted 2 of 4 with two runs scored,
Cameron Frye was 2 of 4 with one run scored and
Kia Borum had a hit and scored a run.
In the second game, Graves cracked a one-run triple in the fourth inning and
Tyler Suttles hit a two-run single in the fifth inning to complete the Eagles' scoring.
NCCU registered five hits and five errors while Coppin State tallied nine hits and two errors. Brooklyn Tapusoa produced five RBIs for Coppin State, which scored nine runs in the third inning.
