Eagles Lose Lead Falling Short to Niagara

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. – For the second straight match, the NC Central women's tennis team was tied 3-3 before the clinching result was determined. On Wednesday afternoon, the Eagles would be denied the victory in a 4-3 match against Niagara at Sanlando Park.

NCCU (4-5) fell behind after dropping the doubles point with Niagara securing two wins. The only victors for the Eagles were Alejandra Hidalgo Vega and Valeria San Miguel Soria in No.1 Doubles, 6-4.

In singles, Patricia Palencia handled the No.4 slot with a 6-0, 6-3 triumph to tie up the match. Hidalgo Vega gave the Maroon & Gray the one-point advantage with a 6-2, 6-0 victory in No.1 Singles.

Mariana Zottoli followed suit, winning 6-0, 6-3 in No.3 Singles, giving NC Central a 3-1 lead.

However, Niagara (4-9, 1-1 MAAC) went on to win the final three singles matches, defeating NCCU.

The Eagles play one more match during spring break. The finale features North Dakota on Thursday, March 13 at 11:30 a.m. at Red Bug Lake Park in Casselberry, Fla.
