ASHEVILLE, N.C. – In the Eagles' first match in 19 days, the North Carolina Central University women's tennis team looked to knock off some rust on Thursday at UNC Asheville. However, NCCU would fall 7-0 to the Bulldogs at the Asheville Racquet Club.
Freshman Mariana Zottoli and sophomore Patricia Palencia would play a competitive match in No.2 Doubles, dropping a 7-6 contest against Avery Sager and Louise Booker.
In singles, two more matches involved seven-point sets. In the No.1 slot, junior Alejandra Hidalgo Vega lost a 7-5 first set followed by a 6-4 second set. Sophomore Gabriela Mejia Arenas played a tough 7-6 second set after a stumbling 6-3 in the first in No.6 Singles.
NC Central looks to bounce back this weekend, making two stops in Virginia. First, the Eagles face Longwood on Saturday, March 1 and head to Hampton the following day.
