NCCU BENCH

The Eagles started the second half of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference schedule hosting Coppin State and Morgan State last weekend splitting the series. NCCU defeated Coppin State 71-59 on Feb. 15 and fell 92-78 against Morgan State on Feb. 17.

Junior guard Po'Boigh King scored a team-high 16 points versus CSU and junior forward Perry Smith Jr. had a 19-point, 12-rebound double-double against MSU. NC Central is 4-1 at home this season when facing MEAC competition and is looking for its first road triumph in conference play.

In the MEAC, NCCU is second in three-point field goal percentage defense (29.6 percent) and turnover margin (+3.73). In the latter statistic, the Eagles are 20th nationally.

The Maroon and Gray are also top-10 in two different categories in the nation. The Eagles are sixth in both fastbreak points (16.77) and turnovers forced per game (16.62).

OPPONENTS

Delaware State dropped a 94-88 overtime contest at home against South Carolina State on Feb. 22. Martaz Robinson, Robert Smith and Kaseem Watson combined for 70 points for the Hornets.

Robinson is second in the MEAC in steals per game (1.6) and third in rebounding (6.4). Watson is third in field goal percentage (51.8 percent).

In the last meeting between the Hornets and the Eagles, NCCU won 75-72 on Jan. 13. Before falling in the 2024 MEAC Tournament to DSU last season, NC Central won 10 straight over the Hornets.

UMES is set to play South Carolina State on Monday evening for its first game of week 17. Saturday's game against NC Central was postponed to Wednesday night. The Hawks have yet to win a conference game this season.
