DURHAM, N.C. – Junior forward Perry Smith Jr. finished with a double-double in North Carolina Central University's 92-78 loss versus Morgan State University in McDougald-McLendon Arena on Monday evening. Smith had a team-high 19 points and 12 rebounds.
The Eagles are currently 11-15 with a 4-5 record in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. Monday's defeat is the second of the season at the hands of Morgan State.
Joining Smith in double figures was redshirt senior Floyd Rideau Jr. with 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Four of his makes were from beyond the arc. Junior guard Po'Boigh King finished with 13 points and junior Dionte Johnson passed for eight assists.
After NC Central tied the game after halftime at 46 apiece with 18:41 remaining, Morgan State took the lead and extended it to as much as 21 points.
NCCU shot 42.2 percent (27-of-64) for the game compared to MSU's 57.4 percent (35-of-61) night. The Eagles made six more three-pointers than the Bears, but Morgan State scored 48 of its points in the paint.
NC Central finished with 13 turnovers with the Bears scoring 21 points off of them as the Eagles only scored eight on nine turnovers forced.
MSU's duo of Kameron Hobbs and Will Thomas scored 24 and 23 points, respectively to lead the Bears.
The Maroon and Gray will regroup before heading to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Saturday, Feb. 22.
