Eagles Fall To Prairie View A&M On Second Day Of HBCU Invitational

COVINGTON, Ga. – Kendall Smith and Samaria Jackson each drove in two runs for North Carolina Central in an 11-6 softball loss to Prairie View A&M on the second day of the HBCU Collegiate Invitational at the Turner Lake Softball Complex on Saturday.

Saturday's second game versus Florida A&M has been canceled.

Jackson smacked a two-run homer over the centerfield fence to put the Eagles up 2-0 in the third inning. Takia Nichols reached base on a walk before Jackson's two-out homer.

Prairie View tied the score in the fourth inning and tacked on two runs in the sixth for a 4-2 lead. The Panthers (6-4 overall) scored seven runs in the top of the seventh inning to widen their lead to 11-2.

The Eagles (1-6 overall) did not quit, however. They scored four times in the bottom half of the seventh for the final score.

Smith hit a two-run double to score Tyler Suttles and Kristin Corner, who doubled in the inning. Makiya Graves scored Daiyah Bailey on a sacrifice fly and Smith scored on Nichols' RBI double.

Both teams collected seven hits but the Eagles committed five errors to zero for Prairie View.

The Eagles play Grambling State Sunday on the final day of the HBCU Invitational. The game begins at 10 a.m.
