Sutton Named MEAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week for the Third Time

NORFOLK, Va. – For the third time this indoor season, Melanne Sutton of the North Carolina Central University women's track and field team has been named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Women's Track Athlete of the Week announced Thursday.

Sutton (Greenville, N.C.) competed in three events at the Liberty Open on Feb. 7-8 with her highest finish coming in the women's 200m in second place at 24.47. Sutton also ran in the 4x400 relay helping the women's team place fourth at 3:53.81.

The sophomore also earned a new personal record while running the 60m dash. Sutton ran a time of 7.47 in the preliminaries before finishing fifth in the final at 7.58.

Sutton's 60m personal record is currently 22nd in the Division I Southeast Region, fourth among HBCUs and second in the MEAC.

Next on the agenda for the Eagles is the postseason. NC Central prepares to face the best in the conference at the 2025 MEAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Feb. 23-24 in Virginia Beach, Va. Tickets are available for purchase HERE.
