Cold Shooting Costs Eagles in Road Loss to USC Upstate

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The North Carolina Central men's basketball team remains without a road victory after an 82-67 loss at USC Upstate on Tuesday evening at G.B. Hodge Center.

The Eagles were led in scoring by Gage Lattimore with 17 points. Khouri Carvey (12) and Jae Slack (11) joined in, finishing in double figures as well. Carvey also grabbed six rebounds, along with Kyric Davis.

NCCU is now 2-6 on the season. This is the fifth time that the Eagles have shot under 40 percent, going 19-of-60 from the field against the Spartans (31.7 percent).

After tying up the game with over six minutes remaining in the first half, NC Central took its final lead (20-17). The advantage was short lived as USC Upstate finished the first half up 39-24.

NC Central started to get going in the second half, driven by a 10-0 run to bring an 18-point lead down to eight with 14:39 left in the game. The Maroon and Gray stayed within distance for spurts, but the lead would blossom to 21 for the Spartans.

Even though the Eagles tied for a season-low nine turnovers and caused 16 by the Spartans converting for 18 points, the deficit was too much even as they kept up the pace with USC Upstate as both teams scored 43 in the second half.

USC Upstate's Mason Bendinger led all scorers with 19 points, snapping a three-game losing streak for the Spartans with an 82-67 victory over NC Central.

The Eagles have a chance to bounce back after Thanksgiving, welcoming the Carolina University Bruins on Saturday, Nov. 29 at 2 p.m. inside McDougald-McLendon Arena.
