DURHAM, N.C. – North Carolina Central hits the road again, this time to Norfolk, Va., for a women's basketball battle against Old Dominion at Chartway Arena. The non-conference game, set for 2 p.m., will be livestreamed on ESPN+.
The Eagles (1-4) are coming off a near-upset of ACC school Wake Forest on Thursday, Nov. 20, in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Morgan Callahan registered 19 points and 12 rebounds in the 68-65 defeat for the Eagles, who had a chance to win or send the game into overtime in the final 18 seconds. Wake Forest recorded a steal to preserve the win.
Aniya Finger leads the Eagles in scoring at 10.8 points per game. Callahan is the team's second leading scorer (10.2 ppg) and leading rebounder (8.4 rpg) and
Najah Lane is the MEAC assist leader with 4.8 assists per game.
The Eagles are sparked by a bench that has outscored the opponent's reserves 61-26 in the last two games.
Tierney Coleman and
Nia Young combined for 28 of the Eagles' 37 bench points against Wake Forest.
Asyia Hinton is making a conference-leading 2.8 three-pointers per game off the bench.
Old Dominion (4-1) has won four in a row after a season-opening loss to UMass. On Friday, the Monarchs beat East Carolina 73-67 in Greenville, N.C., behind 23 points, nine rebounds and four blocks from Simone Cunningham. En'Dya Buford added 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists and three steals. Both Cunningham and Buford were preseason All-Sunbelt Conference selections.
The last time both teams faced each other was 2016. ODU leads the season series 3-0.
