DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's and women's track and field teams did not have to travel far to make additions to the NCCU record books as the Eagles finished competition at the Duke Invitational on Saturday evening.
Graduate student Laderique McNeill (Bunnlevel, N.C.) broke the school record in the men's 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:21.05 finishing 10th in the event.
Freshman Meshack Kuyo (Kenya) finished sixth in the men's 5000m invitational running 14:08.09 to put him in the top-five in the event in the conference.
Sophomore Laila Jackson (Avondale, La.) broke her own NCCU record by running a 2:11.04 in the women's 800m increasing her 2023 time of 2:11.12.
Graduate student Micah Fulton (Pasadena, Calif.) and senior Joidon Boddie (Raleigh, N.C.) both finished high in the women's triple jump. Fulton jumped 12.32m for a third-place finish and Boddie came in fourth jumping 12.21m.
Lamont Victoria (Pince George, Va.) also had a top-five finish coming in fourth (2.05m) in the men's high jump event.
Gianna Marquez, T'Sheylah Moore and Melanne Sutton each ran new personal records in their respective events. Marquez finished with a time of 1:02.17 in the women's 400m hurdles while Moore ran a 56.78 in the women's 400m. Sutton ran two personal bests in the women's 100m (11.93) and 200m (24.92).
NC Central will compete in two separate meets next weekend. The teams will head to the Aggie Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. on April 19-20 and the USC Open in Columbia, S.C. on April 20.
