NCCU Women’s Tennis Clipped by Morgan State in Round-Up Finale

CARY, N.C. – After a 2-1 start to conference play, the North Carolina Central University women's tennis team faltered against Morgan State University falling 5-2 on Sunday at the Cary Tennis Park. The match completed the Eagles' appearance at the 2024 MEAC Round-Up.

NCCU (5-12, 2-2 MEAC) went into singles competition down as the Morgan State Bears won two out of three doubles matches. Sophomore Alejandra Hidalgo Vega and junior Kennedy Hill won No.3 Doubles 6-4.

Sophomore Candice Bernier didn't lose a singles match in four matches during the Round-Up winning the final No.3 Singles in a pair of 6-3 sets. With Sunday's 6-3, 6-2 triumph in No.1 Singles, Hidalgo Vega has now won 10 singles matches so far this season.

Morgan State (3-11, 2-1 MEAC) collected their next four points in No.2, 4, 5 and 6 Singles. Senior Isabelle Exsted suffered her first loss of the weekend falling 6-0, 6-2. Fellow senior Jade Houston dropped No.2 Singles 6-1, 6-4.

Freshman Patricia Palencia fell in a pair of 6-2 sets while the Bears won the No.6 Singles slot due to a walkover.

The Eagles look to bounce back when they host the University of Rhode Island on Friday, March 29 at 11 a.m.
