DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University women's tennis team earned its second win in a row with a 5-2 triumph over North Carolina A&T State University on Thursday afternoon.
The Eagles began the day with an automatic doubles No.3 victory by default for freshman Patricia Palencia and sophomore Candice Bernier. Sophomore Alejandra Hidalgo Vega and junior Kennedy Hill secured the doubles point in No.2 Doubles winning 6-3. The duo is now 3-0 this season when paired together in doubles.
North Carolina A&T (3-2) came into the match with four players available. The Aggies' only points of the day came in singles competition with Hill and Bernier falling to their opponents.
Bernier dropped 6-4, 6-3 sets and Hill pushed her opponent to two tiebreakers winning the first set 6-1 and falling 7-6 and 10-7 in the final tiebreaker.
Senior Jade Houston earned the second point of the day for NCCU winning the No.2 match 6-1, 6-0. Hidalgo Vega's match in the No.1 slot went final after both she and her opponent won a set each that was determined by an 11-9 tiebreaker win from Hidalgo Vega.
Palencia and senior Isabelle Exsted both won No.5 and No.6 singles by default, respectively.
NCCU's (2-10) next match will be on Saturday, March 16 at 1 p.m. hosting Gardner-Webb University.
