RALEIGH, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's tennis team fell 4-0 at No.20 North Carolina State University on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles played to clinch as four matches went unfinished with the Wolfpack earning four points first.
NC State (7-3) collected the first point in doubles competition. Junior Hugo Hidalgo Vega and freshman Leo Fortier-Gariepy were defeated in a 6-0 set. Sophomores Neiman Sneed and Naresh Bharathy dropped in No.3 doubles 6-2. Sophomore Kareem Abdul Hakim and junior captain Oliver Saarinen's match in the No.1 slot went unfinished.
In singles competition, Fortier-Gariepy, Sneed and Bharathy completed their matches. Sneed's match in No.6 Singles was completed first as he fell in a pair of 6-0 sets. Fortier-Gariepy was defeated in No.3 Singles 6-1, 6-2. Bharathy competed in No.4 Singles and his 6-4, 6-0 loss would clinch the match for NC State.
Hidalgo Vega, Abdul Hakim and Saarinen faced the 61st, 109th and 124th-ranked players in the nation, respectively. All three singles matches went unfinished.
NCCU (3-6) plans to host Brigham Young University on Thursday, Feb. 29 at 1 p.m.
