NORFOLK, Va. – Sophomore Tia Lucas of the North Carolina Central University women's track & field team was named the MEAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week announced by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference on Friday evening.

Lucas (James Island, S.C.) finished first in the women's high jump event at the Liberty Open on Feb. 3. She cleared 1.57m (5 ft, 1.75 in) to take the victory.

With the regular season wrapped up, Lucas has now won this award twice during indoor competition. She is currently tied for 25th in the Division I Southeast region, second in the MEAC and seventh among HBCU teams with her jump earlier in the indoor season of 5 ft, 5.25 in at the Dick Taylor Challenge.

The NCCU track & field teams will compete at the MEAC Track & Field Championships on Feb. 18-20 in Virginia Beach, Va.
