WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's and women's track & field teams opened their indoor season at the Visit Winston-Salem College Kick-Off on Saturday at the JDL Fast Track. The Eagles earned a variety of wins including relay, high jump and sprints.
On the track, NC Central won the men's 4x400m relay, women's 60m and women's 400m race.
In the 4x400m relay, the all-freshman team of Zion Amadi, Alan Webster, Dwan Bell and Cashmere James earned a first-place finish of 3:24.12 in their first race as Eagles.
Sophomore Melanne Sutton ran 7.52 for a new personal record coming out on top in the women's 60m event. Fellow sophomore T'Sheylah Moore finished first in the 400m seeded race in 57.64.
In the field, the Eagles dominated the high jump events. Junior Tia Lucas cleared 1.69m for first place. Sophomore Jonathan Raijon-Koger leaped 1.99m for a first-place finish as well.
With the holiday break approaching, NC Central won't compete again until the New Year traveling to the University of North Carolina for the Dick Taylor Challenge on Jan. 18.
