Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Eagles Stumble at Home Against Longwood

DURHAM, N.C. – In the second game played against Longwood University this season, the North Carolina Central University men's basketball team fell 82-67 on Friday evening in McDougald-McLendon Arena less than one week after beating the Lancers in Farmville, Va.

Junior guard Po'Boigh King scored 21 points on 50 percent shooting and grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Senior guard Keishon Porter was the only other Eagle in double figures with 10 points.

Redshirt senior Isaac Parson was one point shy of a double-double, dishing out 10 assists on the night.

NC Central (6-9) opened the game with a free throw by King going 1-of-2 from the line. That 1-0 lead was the only advantage that NCCU would have as the Lancers controlled the lead after LU's Colby Garland made a three-point basket.

The Eagles didn't let Longwood's lead get beyond 12 points through the first half and trailed 36-27 through the first 20 minutes.

In the second half, NCCU fouled a Longwood three-point shooter on two different occasions as the Lancers took advantage at the free-throw line.

After scoring eight points in the first half, King poured in 13 more in the second. He helped cut the lead to six as LU had a 43-37 advantage with over 15 minutes remaining in the game.

Longwood (11-3) went on an 18-4 run for its largest lead, up 61-41 with 11 minutes left. The closest NCCU would come was 13 points as the Lancers went on to win 82-67 as the two schools split this season's series.

Four players were in double figures for Longwood, including Garland with a team-high 17 points.

Both teams had 21 fouls each and were even in bench points (18). Each squad was also close in paint points (34-32) and fast break points (12-10) as the Eagles led both categories.

Three-point and free throw shooting stalled the Eagles as the team went 4-of-22 from beyond the arc and 11-of-23 from the charity stripe.

The only game for the Maroon & Gray next week will be at rival North Carolina A&T State University after the Christmas break. The Eagle-Aggie Classic is set for next Saturday, Dec. 28 at 2 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C. for the first-ever CBS Sports Classic: HBCU Showcase.
