DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University volleyball team fell to Delaware State University in straight sets (25-27, 15-25, 18-25) Friday evening at home at McDougald-McLendon Arena.
NCCU's (6-17, 4-8 MEAC) Tayah Little led the Eagles in kills with 11 finishing with a hitting percentage of .524 while Bella Dearinger had 18 assists. Neira Joldic steered the defense with 10 digs.
How It Happened
The Eagles couldn't hang on in a back-and-forth first set, losing 27-25 in a set that featured six lead changes and was tied 14 times. Neither team led by more than four points in the set.
NC Central then dropped set two 25-15 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Maroon and Gray trailed by as many as 10 points as Delaware State grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was knotted up four times before the Hornets took over the lead.
NCCU could not extend the match and was swept by Delaware State after a tough 25-18 final set. The Eagles were down by as many as seven points as DSU grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 and never relented.
The final home match for NCCU volleyball is on Sunday, Nov. 10 as the Eagles host the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore at 1 p.m. Coach Jody Brown will honor five of his players with Senior Day presentations pre-match.
