NCCU Breaks Scoring Record at Home Against VUL

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University men's basketball team rewrote the record books winning 131-51 for the largest amount scored by the Eagles in program history in McDougald-McLendon Arena on Saturday afternoon. Seven players finished in double figures for NCCU led by senior guard Keishon Porter's 23 points. Junior forwards Kelechi Okworogwo and Jaqai Murray both collected double-doubles.

Joining Porter, Murray (16) and Okworogwo (18) in double figures was junior guard Po'Boigh King (19) and senior guards Floyd Rideau Jr. (16), Aquan Smart (10) and Isaac Parson (10).

NC Central (3-6) has won two games in a row for the first time this season as head coach LeVelle Moton went 12-deep with every player finishing with a positive plus-minus. The 131-point effort was the most scored since the 2022-23 season when the Eagles secured a 127-40 victory against St. Andrews University on Dec. 3, 2022.

In the first half, the Maroon and Gray scored 67 points on 55.8 percent shooting from the field. The Eagles knocked down 11-of-21 threes as Porter and King combined for seven threes in the first 20 minutes with a 67-25 lead.

The tide never turned for the VUL Dragons as the Eagles' stingy defense forced 34 turnovers scoring 48 points off of them. Murray had a game-high six steals. NCCU shared the ball totaling 31 assists with senior wing Timmy Adedire dishing out seven.

NCCU went on an 18-3 run to close out the game as the score went final.

The Maroon and Gray capitalized in the paint with a 60-12 point advantage and 34 second-chance points with the help of 10 rebounds each for Murray and Okworogwo.

Next up the Eagles host Radford University on Thursday, Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. in McDougald-McLendon Arena.
