Eagles Fall on Road to Rival North Carolina A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C. The North Carolina Central University women's basketball team fell 62-39 to in-state rival North Carolina A&T at the Corbett Sports Center Monday evening.

The Eagles are now 0-8 on the season.

Sophomore guard Aysia Hinton led N.C. Central with eight points and seven rebounds, going 3-for-5 from the floor and hitting two of her four 3-pointers. Freshman guard Shakiria Foster added seven points, sophomore guard Kyla Bryant dished out a team-high three assists and graduate forward Morgan Callahan grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

The Eagles struggled from the floor, going 14-for-55 (25.5%) from the floor. Behind the arc, N.C. Central was 4-for-16 (25%), and the team went 7-for-14 (50%) at the free throw line.

N.C. Central jumped out with an 8-2 run to start the game, taking that lead on a Foster fastbreak layup with 6:02 left in the first quarter. Callahan added a fastbreak layup of her own at the 4:31 mark to put the Eagles up 13-4.

After the first 10 minutes, the Eagles led 18-13.

But the Aggies answered with a 19-9 second quarter to go into the locker room with a 32-27 lead, and that momentum carried into the second half. NCAT scored 15 points each in the third and fourth quarters, while the Eagles were held to 12 points in the second half.

NCAT (2-4) shot 35.8% (24-for-67) from the floor and made 11 of 15 free throws (73.3%). The Aggies led 52-38 on the glass and held a 36-16 edge in points in the paint.

Jordyn Dorsey led the Aggies with 17 points.

The Eagles will return to action on Friday, when they head to Chapel Hill, N.C., to take on North Carolina at 2 p.m. The game will air live on ACC Network Extra.
