Eagles Secure Sweep in Regular Season Finale at SC State

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The North Carolina Central University volleyball team got the job done in three sets (25-22, 26-24, 25-13) to defeat South Carolina State University Friday on the road at Dukes Gymnasium.

The conference victory improved NC Central's record to 7-18 overall and 5-9 in MEAC play.

Junior outside hitter Kamren Harper finished with 14 kills on the day to lead the Eagles' attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .281.

NCCU got 10 digs from junior defensive specialist Gabriela Felix-Baeza along with five blocks from junior middle hitter Tayah Little to lead them defensively.

Senior setter Bella Dearinger helped her teammates with a match-high 34 assists.

How It Happened

The Eagles opened up an early one-set-to-none lead, winning 25-22. NCCU grabbed the advantage for good at 23-22 in a set that had just one lead change before the Eagles took over in the second half of the stanza.

After their win in the first set, the Maroon and Gray put themselves on the cusp of a sweep with a 26-24 victory in set number two. The Eagles persevered in a back-and-forth set to win overcoming nine lead changes and 15 ties. Neither team led by more than three points along the way. NC Central racked up 17 kills over the course of the set.

NCCU finished off the match in a 3-0 sweep after taking set three. The Eagles led from the opening point on in the set to earn a 25-13 victory. NC Central opened up as much as a 12-point lead at 21-9 before closing out the set.
