NCCU Volleyball Prepares to Wrap Up Regular Season at South Carolina State

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University volleyball team travels to Orangeburg, S.C. for its final regular season match against South Carolina State University on Friday, Nov. 15 at 6 p.m. The Eagles swept the Bulldogs in the first contest in October.

NC CENTRAL COURT

NCCU (6-18 Overall, 4-9 MEAC) dropped two Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference matches last weekend after hosting Delaware State University on Nov. 8 and the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore on Nov. 10.  

The Eagles were swept by DSU as NCCU's Tayah Little registered 11 kills with a .524 hitting percentage. On Senior Day, NC Central fell 3-1 to UMES steered by 23 kills from Kamren Harper, 52 assists from Bella Dearinger, and 21 digs from Gabriela Felix-Baeza.

NCCU is currently 64th in the nation in team attacks per set (36.40). Dearinger is second in the MEAC in assists per set (8.46) and first in total assists (111). Harper is fourth in the conference in kills per set (3.14).

The Maroon and Gray lead the series 27-9 over the Bulldogs since 2007. The Eagles haven't dropped a match to South Carolina State since 2015.

SOUTH CAROLINA STATE COURT

South Carolina State (3-21 Overall, 1-12 MEAC) was swept in both matches last weekend at home versus UMES on Nov. 8 and Delaware State on Nov. 10.

In last Friday's contest, SCSU was led by Xaria Pickett with eight kills and Kaia Barnett with 16 assists. Pickett had the same number of kills against DSU on Sunday and Barnett assisted on 22 points.

In the last match between the Eagles and Bulldogs on Oct. 18, Pickett had nine kills and Barnett had 18 assists. SCSU eventually fell 25-16, 25-19, 25-20.
