BALTIMORE, Md. – The North Carolina Central University volleyball team secured the first set against Coppin State University but couldn't hang on dropping the next three (25-18, 13-25, 19-25, 20-25) on the road at CSU's Physical Education Complex on Sunday afternoon.
NCCU (3-12, 1-3 MEAC) was led by junior Emmie Modlin who registered a 12-kill, 14-dig double-double on the day.
Junior Kamren Harper added a match-high 20 kills for the NC Central Eagle attack. This was her fifth match in a row with double-digit kills.
On the defensive end, junior Gabriela Felix-Baeza chipped in with 16 digs to go with four blocks each from sophomore Kayden Cupid and junior Tayah Little. Senior Bella Dearinger recorded a match-high 36 assists for NCCU.
How It Happened
The NCCU Eagles grabbed control of the set-one lead at 3-2 and never looked back to win 25-18. NC Central led by as many as nine points at 15-6 before closing out the set.
Coppin State took the second set 25-13 to tie the contest. The Maroon and Gray squad trailed by as many as 12 points. The set was tied up two times before the CSU Eagles gained the advantage and maintained the lead.
NC Central dropped their second set in a row 25-19, falling behind in the match two sets to one. Coppin State grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that was tied up nine times before the CSU took over in the second half of the stanza.
NCCU closed out the match in set four, falling 25-20. The NC Central Eagles lost the first point and never clawed back into the lead before losing the set.
North Carolina Central will spend another weekend on the road in upcoming matches at Delaware State University (Oct. 11) and the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore (Oct. 13).
