WASHINGTON, D.C. – The North Carolina Central University volleyball team could not overcome a steady Howard University offense Sunday on the road falling in three sets (13-25, 19-25, 9-25) to the Bison.
NCCU (5-15, 3-6 MEAC) split its road trip to the D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area after defeating Norfolk State University on Friday before wrapping up the weekend at Howard.
Junior Kamren Harper and Kennedy Clark each finished with eight kills on the day to lead the Eagles offense and defensively, NC Central got seven digs from junior Emmie Modlin.
The NCCU attackers were helped by a team-high 20 assists from senior Bella Dearinger.
How It Happened
The Eagles fell behind early, dropping a tough first set 25-13. NC Central trailed by as many as 12 points as Howard never gave up the lead in a set tied up just once before the Bison took control.
NCCU then lost set two 25-19 to fall behind two sets to none in the match. The Maroon and Gray trailed by as many as six points as Howard grabbed the advantage for good at 16-15 after two ties.
NC Central was not able to win the third set and was swept by Howard. The Eagles fell behind on the first point and never took the lead before losing the set 25-9.
The Eagles return home to host Morgan State University on Friday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m.
