PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – The North Carolina Central University volleyball team fell to the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Hawks in its final match of another MEAC road trip on Sunday. The Eagles were defeated in straight sets (21-25, 13-25, 21-25) at the Hytche Center.
NCCU (3-14, 1-5 MEAC) was led in the attack by junior Tayah Little who earned 10 kills on the day while finishing with a hitting percentage of .421.
Senior Bella Dearinger had a match-high 26 assists to her teammates. Junior Emmie Modlin had eight digs and Little had two blocks on defense.
For the Hawks, Ranyla Griggs had a match-high 13 kills and Anisa Dorlouis led her squad in assists (19) and digs (16).
How It Happened
The Eagles fell behind early, dropping the first set 25-21. NC Central was able to tie up the set three times before Maryland-Eastern Shore grabbed the advantage for good at the 20-point mark.
NCCU would also drop set two 25-13 creating a 2-0 deficit in the match for the Maroon and Gray. The Eagles lost the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before dropping the set.
UMES finished the sweep with a third-set victory. NC Central came up short by a score of 25-21. The Eagles trailed by as many as six points as the Hawks grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that was knotted up four times before UMES took over the lead.
NC Central volleyball returns to McDougald-McLendon Arena on Oct. 18 for a match against South Carolina State University at 6 p.m.
