NCCU Ends Road Trip with a Loss to the Bison


WASHINGTON, D.C. – Graduate student Jeslyn Spencer paced the North Carolina Central University volleyball team with nine points in a 3-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference road loss at Howard University on Sunday.
 
Spencer tallied eight kills and one ace while posting NCCU's top hitting percentage of .208.
 
The Bison, who are one of the preseason favorites to win the league title, trailed 21-20 late in the third set, but won five of the next seven serves to complete the sweep. Howard (6-8 Overall, 2-0 MEAC) has won three straight matches and remains undefeated against conference competition after the 25-18, 25-19, 25-23 triumph. 
 
Sophomore Emmie Modlin netted eight points for the Eagles, including five kills, two aces and two block assists. Graduate student Isa Dostal contributed six points with two kills, a team-high three aces and two block assists. Junior setter Bella Dearinger contributed 12 assists and both Modlin and junior libero Loren Johnson chipped in eight digs.
 
Reigning MEAC Player of the Year Rya McKinnon paced the Bison with nine kills, two aces and two block assists for 12 points. Howard finished with a 9-3 block advantage while sporting a .279 team hitting percentage.
 
NC Central (1-10, 0-2) will next made host its first MEAC home match of the season when the Eagles entertain Morgan State University on Friday at 6 p.m.
