NCCU Volleyball Suffers Road Setback at Gardner-Webb

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The North Carolina Central University volleyball team was unable to complete a home-and-away weekend sweep of Gardner-Webb University as the Runnin' Bulldogs avenged Friday's loss in Durham with a straight-set triumph on Saturday.

GWU (2-3) picked up the 25-14, 25-12, 25-19 victory in its home opener. The Eagles were held to a season-low .078 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Emmie Modlin led the maroon and gray on attack for the second straight night, posting a team-high six kills. Classmate Kamren Harper also had six points as she contributed five kills and one ace.

Junior setter Bella Dearinger paced the visitors with 15 assists and eight digs.

Freshman Jenna Otts had another big performance for the Runnin' Bulldogs, tallying a match-high 14 kills for the victors. Gardner-Webb served up 11 aces, including four by sophomore libero Sophia Kotsovolos, who also had eight digs.

NC Central will try and bounce back with a road match at Campbell University (Buies Creek, N.C.) on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
